This feel the glow pumpkin, sweet potato & turmeric juice is packed with vitamin a, vitamin c, and anti-inflammatory curcumin. It offers an eye-popping orange glow and a punch of fall-infused sweetness.
Between Monday's juice post and a slew of pumpkin recipes, I feel like there's a lot of overlap around here lately. However, I promise you that it's for good reason, and that this juice is worth repeating.
I wrapped up photography on the smoothies and juices chapter for the cookbook last weekend, and the last juice I was shooting was a warming winter juice. Warming as in it's packed with warming spices and ginger to warm from the inside out. After snapping way too many photos, I packed up my baking tray of juice photo gear and headed back to the kitchen. As I turned the corner from hallway to kitchen, I caught several crusty glimmers of sweet potato pulp smeared on our hardwood floors. Ugh. So much cleanup. I'm not sure if it's my juicing style or the juicer itself, but sometimes things get wild. Pulp in my hair, pulp everywhere!
After apprehensively eyeing our pulp-spattered kitchen, I decided that I didn't want to go through the hassle of cleaning the entire juicer, floors, and cabinets without at least making another round of juice. More juice = more likely to be worth the cleanup.
What to juice though...
I had what appeared to be a half-bushel of sweet potatoes piled on the counter. So, sweet potatoes = yes.
Side note: I have this thing where I always think I need to buy more sweet potatoes even when I don't, and the current number on our counter suggests that this habit of mine is teetering between collecting and hoarding.
Those sweet potatoes were nestled against a mini pumpkin that was about two days out from withering in the face of unexplored potential. Mini pumpkin = yes. A quick trip to the refrigerator revealed an orange, turmeric root, ginger root, and a bruised red apple. Yes, yes, yes, YES. That bruised red apple gets an emphatic yes, because it has aspirations/hopes/dreams too.
And there you have the lineup of goodness nestled into this glowing juice.
Sweet potatoes, pumpkin, and oranges are rich with Vitamin A and Vitamin C. Turmeric is touted for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Ginger offers a warming note and soothes the digestive tract. And that bruised and glorious red apple offers an extra splash of sweetness.
This juice is on the sweeter side, especially when compared to green juice, so feel free to adjust it to suit your tastes. You can omit the apple and/or orange, toss in some carrots or beets, etc. Have fun and get glowing. Get it? ♥

Hi,
Just ran across this recipe and it looks delicious. Do you think it would work as a smoothie?

Hi, Sarah! I'm so sorry for the delay; somehow I missed your comment and just noticed it! I could only see this working as a smoothie if both the pumpkin and sweet potato were cooked, but I have a feel the flavor and texture would fall a bit flat. If you don't have a juicer but you have a high-speed blender (e.g., vitamix, blendtec), you can try blending the ingredients to puree. Then, you can gather the puree in a few layers of cheesecloth and squeeze the juice out of the puree/pulp.
