In addition to packing nearly 100 mg of Vitamin C into its purple confines, this blueberry & mango immune-boosting smoothie also contains impressive amounts of Vitamin A, Calcium, B6, Potassium, Manganese, Vitamin K, and fiber, making it a well-rounded glass of fruity goodness.Â
Yes, you're right. This smoothie definitely looks more like summer than fall, but hear me out for a minute.
Fall marks that time of year when germs start flying around, and if we don't make an active attempt to keep ourselves healthy with exercise, plenty of rest, and an abundance of vibrant foods, we're more likely to fall prey to a case of of the sneezies.
Leaning on Vitamin C is a reliable approach to keeping our immune systems strong, and this smoothie is packed with it. Seriously. This pretty little smoothie packs nearly 100 mg of Vitamin C within its purple confines, which is over 130% of the recommended daily intake. Vitamin C POWERHOUSE.
This blueberry & mango immune-boosting smoothie also contains impressive amounts of Vitamin A, Calcium, B6, Potassium, Manganese, Vitamin K, and fiber, making it a well-rounded glass of fruity goodness. Check. It. Out.
In addition to the vitamin and mineral boost from the banana, mango, and blueberries, the extra boost comes from Baobab powder. Baobab powder comes from baobab fruit and is an antioxidant-rich superfood.
I've talked about baobab a tiny bit before in this sunshine smoothie post, but here's a little refresher:Â it's most known for containing 6 times more Vitamin C than oranges, 5 times more potassium than bananas, it enhances energy and alertness, maintains hydration, boosts iron levels in the body, and strengthens our immune systems. You ask, Baobab presents. Go on with your bao-bad self. Too much?
In all seriousness though, I typically have a harder time adhering to my usual self-care routines during this particular transition of seasons. The cool chill that sweeps in whispers things like Forgetttttt your workout. Eat chewyyyyy white bread for everyyyy meal of your life. Stay up laaaaaate... later than you did in college... it's a goooood idea.Â
Sometimes when I say "in all seriousness," I proceed to get serious by typing out the whisperings of my inner monologue. Which, for the record, apparently sound a lot like the Ghost of Christmas Past. I learn new things about myself every day, including the fact that I tend to make jokes just before I get serious on a philosophical, mushy-gushy level (psst, that was your warning).
In real, true, I-swear-I'm-serious seriousness, this year I've made a promise to care for myself with consistency throughout the year but most especially during times when I'm more prone to succumbing to the everyday stresses of life.
Lately, I've let the stresses in my life mount, compact, and boil over all of the goodness. After a few weeks of being a frazzled, reactive ball of stressful energy, I put my foot down yesterday. While I forgive myself for being human, I know I can do better.
More importantly, I know I deserve better.
Can we pinky-promise to wrangle and dispel our stressors before they veil our days from the everyday sunshine of life? Let's dish out love to ourselves as easily as we dish it out to others. Let's shower ourselves in praise, nurture our bodies, and practice unconditional self-compassion. Why? Because we deserve it.

Especially with my final exams of medical school coming up next week, reading your post in a study break really cheered me up, thank you! I will go and make myself a smoothie now :)

Hi, Laura! You're welcome and thank YOU for commenting and sharing your thoughts. It's always so nice to be able to connect with readers, especially about heartfelt topics. I always feel vulnerable including more emotion-focused stuff in blog posts, but it's therapeutic to share it. I'm glad we're in this pinky-promise together! Good luck with your med school finals next week, and be sure to take some smoothie-sipping brain breaks while you study :)
